Trees or
other obstructions in the way?
900MHz Wireless Backhauls are
powerful when used appropriately. 900MHz has great
penetration for Non-Line of sight applications, however
they are very vulnerable to interference from other
devices (cordless phones, remote controls). It is
recommended to mount the antennas as high as possible on
both your locations, and determine if any other hand
held transmitting devices are present before Wi-Fi installation. |
 |
This Outdoor 11db
Integrated Access Point can be mounted outdoors, and can be powered through
the integrated Power-over-Ethernet adapter that comes with the
unit. If you are looking to connect multiple locations,
but have obstructions such as trees in the way, then this bridge
kit is the ideal solution. The outdoor antenna needs only
a single Ethernet Cable connected to it, making your
installation fast and easy. Bridge your wireless network
together up to 1 mile away, and gain access to sharing files,
videos, or other data.
The 900MHz access point can be
placed up to 300ft. away from your network, with only a single
cat5 cable connecting to it. This makes your network
Installation easier to install and maintain. Each Access Point
will be configured as a Bridge, and will only communicate with
each other. This means a safer, and more secure network
connection for your LAN. No other rogue laptop user will
be able to pick up the signal between your two points.
This Wireless Bridge
is connecting at a frequency of 900MHz, which means if you have
trees or other obstacles in the path of your Point-to-Point
connection, you will still have a strong and solid connection.
Simply mount the enclosure outside in the direction of your
remote location, connect the cat5 network cable to your LAN, and you're ready for connectivity. This bridge includes security
measures of 40 and 128bit WEP, Media Access Control, and WPA.
VLAN Trunking: Typically a switch uses port
based VLANs. This means that whatever is plugged in to
Port X, belongs to whatever Port X is in. Each frame is tagged
with a VLAN tag in the layer 2 header when entering a VLAN
switch port. These frames run across trunk links between two
switches and between a switch and a router. The tag is stripped
down when the frame is sent from the outgoing switch port to the
end device. Remember that the native VLAN frames (by default
VLAN 1 in Cisco and many other devices) are NOT tagged.
When you use a radio link, or wireless
bridge on a VLAN trunk, there are some things to remember:
-
You must use a transparent bridge or the
trunk will be unable to form. Remember, L2.5 bridging
rewrites the layer 2 header. (This bridge operates as
a transparent bridge, when in bridge mode)
-
The radios included in this wireless
bridge (and many other wireless devices) are not switches
and are not VLAN aware. Therefore, tagged frames in the
trunk will be ignored by the devices.
-
The VLAN tag is 4 bytes long. This
means that the maximum Ethernet frame size goes from 1518
bytes to 1522 bytes. Any devices on the trunk link needs to
be able to pass these frames. This Wireless Bridge, with up
to date firmware can pass VLAN tagged frames.

Features at a
glance
-
Dual Ethernet
Ports: This will allow you to daisy chain radios
at your installation sites. This can benefit you as an
installer, as the dual Ethernet ports will allow you to plug
in PoE devices such as network cameras or other Outdoor
Access Points.
-
More Robost
Routing Features: Includes Tunneling Protocol
Support, which will allow you to pass through VPN clients,
as well as use tunneling protocols such as VPN, PPTP, RSA
and others.
-
All New Access
Point Features: WDS will allow this Outdoor Access
Point to be wirelessly connected to other Access Points,
while still servicing clients. (Wireless Distribution
System)
-
Wi-Fi
Protected Access (WPA): Wireless Protected Access
impoves on the security features of WEP. It includes
impoved data encryption and user authentication.
-
All New Client
Adapter Features: With this Outdoor Access Point,
you will be able to align your client and point-to-point
installations without having to log into the radio.
You will get visual signal strength at a glance by using
this great new feature, using the alignment LED's located on
the back of the Access Point.
-
Controllable
High Gain Output: Both radios have 25dBm maximum
output. This works great for long distance
Point-to-Point applications, as well as Client applications.
Power can be scaled back for closer installations to avoid
noise issues and to meet local regulatory requirements.
-
Wireless
Security: WEP, WPA wireless security is included
in this wireless backhaul. This will encrypt the data
being sent between the connection. Also included in
this wireless backhaul is AES encryption, which is a higher
level security feature then standard WEP/WPA. The two
radios can also be configured in PXP mode, which enables
only the two outdoor access points to communicate with each
other, avoiding any other access to the network. The
wireless bridge operates seamlessly as a Wireless Bridge
between your two locations.

QUESTION1:
Hello. I have a customer
that wants a camera at his gate.
From his house to the gate it is
1,200 feet. About the middle of the
path there is about 100' of trees.
He wants it to be wireless. We have
power at the gate. What would be
the best option for this application
and could I please get a quote?
ANSWER1:
You will have to use a 900 MHz point
to point link, which will penetrate
the trees without a problem. Your
quote is attached. This includes
everything that you need to
establish the connection, and will
come pre-configured, and ready to
install "out of the box". Each
antenna that will be placed at each
location is enclosed in an outdoor,
weatherproof enclosure. At the main
location, you will connect the
outdoor radio, via Ethernet cable,
to your LAN, or switch. At the
gate, you will connect the outdoor
radio, via Ethernet cable to the
camera. Each unit is powered via a
power injector, which must be placed
indoors, or inside a weatherproof
box where you have your AC power.

QUESTION2:
I
need to know if it is possible to
network two home offices together
via wireless. They are approximately
3300 feet apart. The ground
topography between the two shows a
dip so there will be no land mass
obstruction between the locations.
The only obstructions are trees.
Patches of trees throughout total
approximately 1020 linear feet of
obstruction. The desired result is
for the two home offices to be
connected as if they were one. Each
home office has a basic network
where all the computers are on the
same workgroup. One home office has
three computers and the other one
has four. Each site has wireless
routers where other users may be on
the network occasionally. We would
like to share files, printers, and
internet. We plan to share large
files but connection speeds at
11Mbps are acceptable. Is there
anything powerful enough to make
this connection with 100% certainty?
ANSWER2:
At your distance, the most reliable
wireless bridge to connect your two
locations would be to use the
GNS-1130, which is a complete link,
using the 900 MHz technology. The
radios included in the link, are
outdoor rated, and can be mounted
outdoors. The integrated antennas
will point toward each other, and
establish the desired link. Each
radio is powered via an indoor power
injector, which sends power and data
through the connected Ethernet
cable. This makes installation
quick and easy. Mount each antenna
as high as possible, at your
locations, and point toward each
other. Avoid using any 900 MHz
cordless phones inside the two
locations. View details of the link
